"Ankeny NWR, Oregon"
Ankeny NWR:    The 2,865-acre Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge is located in the Willamette Valley near the confluence of the Santiam and Willamette Rivers, approximately 15 miles south of Baskett Slough NWR. Ankeny Refuge consists of mostly cropland, riparian forests, and shallow water seasonal wetlands. As with Baskett Slough NWR, the primary goal of Ankeny Refuge is to provide high quality wintering habitat for geese (especially the dusky Canada goose) while minimizing goose browse damage to crops on private agricultural lands. Both Refuges were created in 1985. According to Oregon Geographic Names (McArthur and McArthur, 2003), Ankeny Refuge was named after Henry E. Ankeny whose father established a farm there in the 1870s.
