"Indigo Bunting"
Indigo Bunting:    Ehrlich, Dobkin, and Wheye, in their 1988 publication "The Birder's Handbook", write "No one knows where the name bunting came from -- some think it was from the German 'bunt' meaning 'mottled', others from a French diminutive. The name of the Lazuli Bunting is from the same source as the name of the semiprecious stone lapis lazuli, the Latin 'azulis' meaning 'azure'. The root of the 'Indigo' in Indigo Bunting is the same as 'Indian'. It refers to the subcontinent that is the source of the bluish plant dye bearing the same name."
