"Gambel's Quail"
Gambel's Quail:    The Gambel's quail was named after William Gambel, a 19th century naturalist and explorer of the Southwestern United States. The birds scientific name "callipepla" comes from the Greek "kalli", meaning "beautiful" and "peplos", meaning "robe". The name "quail" itself has its roots in Middle Dutch and Old French and is related to "quack", the sound attributed to that made by the European quail. A group of quails may be called a "battery", "drift", "flush", "rout", or "shake" of quails.
