"Black-bellied Plover"
Black-bellied Plover:    Ehrlich, Dobkin, and Wheye, in their 1988 publication "The Birder's Handbook", write "Plover is from the Latin pluvia, rain. It has been claimed that the name refers to either the ease with which the birds can be caught in the rain, or that they sing in the rain. Neither is correct, and its tru origins remain unrecorded. Semipalmated from semi plus palma in Latin means 'half-palmed' and refers to the partially webbed foot of that plover. Wilson's Plover, or course memorializes the father of scientific ornithology in American, Alexander Wilson."
